"Nur mit Dir: No Future und die Zukunft der Kunst" – "Only with you: No Future and the Future of Art"

Thomas Behling works in his picture objects with the ideological inheritance in our heads, which often contradicts our conscious self-understanding. His works of art are on the border between sincerity and irony, between critical analysis and naive homage.
In "Do not look back!" he turns our eyes in the rear-view mirror and asks where we are from and where the journey is going. Although the backdrop on the back shelf made of models of crippled trees, church ruins and tombs evokes the memory of the romantic role model, it is actually more like a grisly Gothic kitsch made of plastic. Did we possibly get lost?
"Dany Sahne", with its broad field and yellowed decals in the sawn box, aims for a wide field of associations and memories and allows one to look behind the beautiful painterly illusion.
We like to look in the mirror to see our own image of ourselves and to know who and what we are. But how much can we really know about ourselves? In any case, the object "self-knowledge" with its two mirrors reflects above all its empty interior again and again.
The project space Atelierhof Kreuzberg shows an overview of Behling's work in recent years.
